Operation Hot Pepper: A 6th Grade Poultry Rescue Mission

(9/2): Our 6th graders traded textbooks for garden gloves this week on a mission to save the flock. Turns out our chickens had picked up some unwelcome parasites — the kind that were putting a full stop to egg-laying.
We started with a bag of FLOCK pepper blend, but a little research showed capsaicin (the fiery stuff in hot peppers) works as a natural dewormer — and chickens can't even taste the heat! So why buy peppers when you can grow your own? The kids harvested, dried, and ground our own homegrown peppers into a spicy powder for the coop.
The verdict? Eggs are back! Not many yet, but a hen laying again after a parasite battle is basically a five-star review.
Spicy powder in, happy hens out.
