Counselor Connection: National Kindness Day

(11/12): Pontotoc Middle School celebrated World Kindness Day on Thursday, November 13. World Kindness Day is an international holiday that was formed in 1998 to promote kindness throughout the world and is observed annually on November 13 as part of the World Kindness Movement. It is observed in many countries including the United States, Canada, and Japan. World Kindness Day presents us with the opportunity to pay it forward and display numerous Random Acts of Kindness.
**As part of our Kindness campaign we are kicking off a “Can Food Drive” and these items will be donated to our local food pantry.
**Students and teachers can also wear bright colors on this day to remember the slogan “Shine bright with Kindness”.
**Students and staff will also be challenged to perform 5 acts of kindness throughout the day.
Cell city

Welcome to Cell City!

(11/10): Pontotoc Middle School’s 6th grade science students recently became city planners — for a cell! To better understand how organelles work together, students designed their own “Cell City” maps, comparing parts of a cell to places in a community. For some student groups nucleus became City Hall, the mitochondria the power plant, and the cell membrane the city limits! Through creativity and teamwork, students discovered that just like a city’s departments must work together to keep things running smoothly, so must the organelles inside every living cell.

6th Grade Agriculture Students “Leaf” No Detail Unturned

(11/10): Pontotoc Middle School’s 6th grade Agriculture students have been busy turning their recent field trip to Trace State Park into a hands-on research project! After collecting a variety of leaves along the trails, students used plant identification apps to discover each leaf’s common name, scientific name, margin type, and shape. They also determined whether each leaf was deciduous or evergreen and if it was simple or compound. By blending technology with outdoor exploration, these young botanists are learning how observation and science work together to unlock the secrets of nature—one leaf at a time!
