(9/26): Our fifth graders made reading extra fun during ELA class as they enjoyed books for Accelerated Reader (AR). Students brought in blankets and pillows to get comfy while diving into their stories, creating a cozy atmosphere perfect for reading. To make the day even sweeter, the class shared donuts together!
Students are working hard toward their AR goals, and we’re excited to celebrate their efforts—AR rewards are coming soon! Way to go, Warriors, for showing that reading can be both fun and rewarding!

(9/26): PMS students are ready for our Warriors to play football tonight! They are supporting them in black and gold with their faces painted. Good luck tonight, Warriors!

(9/26): The Scholastic Book Fair at Pontotoc Middle School was a huge success! Students and families enjoyed shopping for books, posters, and fun items, and many exciting new reads found their way into Warrior homes.
Thanks to your support, our library will be able to purchase even more books with the profits from the fair—helping us grow our collection and keep students excited about reading.
A big thank you goes out to everyone who participated and supported the PMS Book Fair. Together, we are building a stronger reading community!

(9/26): The PMS PTO treated teachers to a caffeine cart before Open House this week. These boys were all smiles as they handed out the drinks! Thanks!

(9/26): Our 6th grade Agriculture students are putting the school greenhouse to good use by planting catnip and mint seeds. They’re discovering that seeds can be started almost any time of the year — as long as they’re kept at just the right temperature, which is exactly what the greenhouse provides. The Ag teacher has a special plan for the mint: once it’s ready to harvest, students will brew their own mint tea and enjoy it while watching the whimsical “Tea Party” scene from Alice in Wonderland. A little science, a little agriculture, and a touch of fun — the perfect recipe for learning!

(9/19): Ms. Swain’s Computer Science students have kicked off an exciting new project—designing their very own websites! This week, students began the brainstorming process, mapping out ideas for layouts, color schemes, and content.
Through this project, students will practice critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills while also learning the basics of web design. We can’t wait to see the unique and innovative websites our Warriors create!

(9/19): Our 6th grade Agriculture students are doing their part to keep the school grounds looking their best — especially now that our brand-new football stadium is shining in the spotlight. From tending the flowerbeds to pruning roses and keeping plants healthy, watering the new sod and picking up trash, these students are learning that agriculture isn’t just about food — it’s also about caring for the spaces we share. Their hard work makes the campus a place everyone can be proud of, on and off the field.

(9/18): At Pontotoc Middle School, we are proud of our students who are demonstrating positive character traits each day. From showing kindness to classmates, to being responsible in the classroom, to showing respect in the halls, our Warriors are setting a wonderful example for others. These students remind us that good character is just as important as good grades. By choosing to be respectful, caring, and responsible, they are helping to create a school environment where everyone can succeed. Way to go, Warriors—keep up the great work!

(9/18): Pontotoc Middle School students recently explored the rich history of our nation by listening to lessons on the U.S. Constitution, the Founding Fathers, and the core beliefs that shaped America. Students learned how important early leaders like Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and George Washington and strong voices like Paul Revere and Sybil Ludington played key roles in the fight for independence.
Through these discussions, students gained a deeper understanding of the phrase “We the People” and how it continues to inspire civic responsibility, freedom, and unity today. Our Warriors are building not only knowledge of history, but also appreciation for the values that guide our country.

(9/15): Our school librarian, Mrs. Mathews, recently attended LAMP, a professional library workshop focused on keeping our library program strong and up-to-date. During the session, librarians learned about updates to the MAGNOLIA online database, providing even more high-quality resources for students and teachers. The workshop also highlighted the Magnolia Book Awards and this year’s exciting list of nominees—books that encourage a love of reading and thoughtful discussions.
The Mississippi Department of Education shared ways libraries can support student learning by incorporating social studies standards and STEM activities into library lessons. We’re excited to bring these new ideas back to Pontotoc Middle School to keep our library a place where reading, research, and innovation come together!
