DT Cox Elementary School News

(4/2) Mrs. Hodum's classroom turned into an exciting Easter Bunny Escape Room this week! 🐰🔍 Students worked in teams to read passages, answer questions, and solve clues to track down the missing Easter Bunny. Each correct answer led them one step closer to the final location. After lots of teamwork, critical thinking, and determination, they successfully found him hiding in the library! It was a fun and engaging way to strengthen reading skills while celebrating the season.

(4/2) Some of Mrs. Stanford’s art students took their creativity outdoors as they practiced drawing landscapes en plein air—right in the open air! 🎨🌿 This hands-on experience allowed them to observe and capture the beauty around them while building their artistic skills.

(4/2) Fourth grade students brought history to life today with their very own Wax Museum! Each student researched a famous person of their choice, gathered interesting facts, and dressed the part. Families were invited to walk through and enjoy the experience, and with the press of a “button,” students came to life and shared what they learned. It was such a fun and creative way to showcase their hard work!

(4/2) Fourth grade math teachers celebrated their high achievers with a fun movie party yesterday! 🎬🍿 Students who scored a 5 on their latest benchmark test were rewarded for their hard work and dedication. We are so proud of their success—way to go!

(4/2) Ms. Luther’s class had a fun and engaging review today as her student teacher,Ms. McGinn, led a lively game of “Boom, Clap, Snatch” to practice multiplication facts! Students were all smiles as they worked on building their skills in an exciting and interactive way. Way to make learning fun!

(4/2) Several third grade classes put a fun twist on test prep this week with an exciting “Test Prep Egg Hunt!” 🐣📚 Students searched for hidden eggs filled with math and ELA questions, then worked together in teams to solve them. This interactive review kept everyone engaged, encouraged collaboration, and made practicing important skills both exciting and memorable. We are so proud of their hard work as testing gets closer—they are getting ready!

(4/2) While reviewing area and perimeter, Mrs. Bryant and Mrs. Shields’ classes headed outside to measure the playground using their own unique tools—pencils, feet, hands, and even their bodies!


Students worked together to estimate, compare, and problem-solve as they figured out the area and perimeter in creative ways. It was a fun, hands-on way to bring math to life!

(4/2) The students at DT Cox have been learning the fundamentals of tennis through a fun and engaging activity called Balloon Tennis. Mrs. Bishop taught them how to keep score, and practice important skills such as striking the balloon using both forehand and backhand techniques. The students have really enjoyed learning this game while building their coordination and confidence.

(4/1) April Fools’ Day was a hit at DTC! Students pulled off the ultimate prank on our Assistant Principal, Mr. Varnon—covering the school walls with their very own colored pictures of him!
From hallway to hallway, his face was everywhere, and the excitement from students made it even better. Safe to say, they were very proud of their teamwork and creativity in making this prank come to life!
