DT Cox Elementary School News

(9/2) After learning about different text structures, students in Mrs. Hodum's class selected one text structure of their choice. Students then created an original scenario that demonstrated their chosen text structure and illustrated their ideas. This activity allowed students to demonstrate their understanding of text structures in a creative and meaningful way.

(9/2) Mrs. Roe's fourth grade students reviewed ELA skills (main idea, context clues, text structure and text evidence) for their mid unit test with a fun gallery walk!

(9/2) This week, Ms. Lydia’s students had fun creating their own backpacks while practicing their articulation skills and creativity. We love seeing learning made fun!

(8/28) It's been a great day full of Warrior Pride!!

(8/28) Miss Mary Klaire and Mrs. Ann’s class made “ants on a log” today! We used celery, peanut butter and raisins! The students enjoyed spreading the peanut butter on their “log,” but they didn’t like the taste of the celery!

(8/28) Mrs Collums' students practiced rounding in a fun small group today. They were required to roll the dice, round each number to the nearest ten, and sharpen those math skills!

(8/28) A big THANK YOU to our amazing DTC PTO for organizing our delicious burger lunch as we celebrated our August staff birthdays!
And a special shoutout to Mr. Marcus and Mr. Brian for firing up the grill and being our awesome cooks!

(8/28) Ms. Griffith’s students learned all about the life and legacy of Dolly Parton! Students read an informational passage about her life, listened to some of her greatest hits, and colored their own picture of Dolly in her famous “Coat of Many Colors.”

(8/28) Students in Ms. Britt's class practiced addition properties with a fun dice game during small group! They rolled the dice and used the numbers they rolled to fill in the blanks and build addition equations.

(8/27) Mrs. Bishop's PE students worked in teams to guide a blindfolded teammate through a hula hut using only verbal directions. The goal was to successfully crawl through the obstacle without knocking over the hula hut. This activity encouraged communication, teamwork, trust, listening skills, spatial awareness, coordination, problem-solving, and body control.
